SPEECH BY COUNCILLOR RICHARD DINKELMANN

Congratulatory Speech to New Tshwane Mayor
17 March 2006

Mr Speaker, thank you

The ACDP would like to congratulate Dr Ramokgopa on her election as Executive Mayor of the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. We also congratulate the re-elected Speaker Clr Khorombi Dau, and the newly elected Chief Whip, Clr Tebogo Mampane.

Madam Mayor, we support you in your endeavour to serve our people - the residents of this beautiful city, the capital city of South Africa! You will need God's help and blessing to make a success of this great task.

We would like to encourage you by quoting from the prophet Isaiah chapter 41 - "But as for you, Israel my servant (read Gwendoline my servant), Jacob my chosen one (read Ramokgopa my chosen one), descended from my friend Abraham, I have called you back from the ends of the earth so you can serve me. For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand."

Our constitutional mandate as a local authority is to deliver services to our communities. I hope that this term will see us refocus our collective energies on that goal alone. Let's put away petty party politics, side issues which divide us, and ensure that the lives of our people are improved.

Let's all keep the vision of our organisation in mind, which reads:

"The leading African capital city of excellence that empowers the community to prosper in a safe and healthy environment."

Mr Speaker, in conclusion, we would like to thank the voters who voted for the ACDP and say to them that we pledge to live up to the mandate they have given us - to stand uncrompomisingly for biblical values, and to serve all the residents of the city.

God bless us all

I thank you

Richard Dinkelmann
