ANC excludes other parties to seek solutions for Kruger & Schubart Park
During
the debate in the Tshwane Metro Council today, the ANC voted against a
proposal by the DA & ACDP that a multi-party forum be established
to seek solutions for the dire situation at Kruger & Schubart Park.
This was in fact proposed by the ANC mayor, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, during
the special debate on the issue during the July Council meeting. The
ANC has once again acted against their promises.
Instead, the
ANC has commissioned a report "to be tabled by March 2009" by the
officials who were responsible for this mess in the first place! We are
suspicious about the "options" to be investigated. Is the ANC perhaps
planning to demolish these buildings before a detailed structural
investigation has been completed?
The ACDP is extremely
disappointed in this action by the ANC, as it again indicates the
secretive style of management and lack of urgency to solve this
critical issue. 5 people lost their lives in a fire on 22 July &
still no visible progress has been made to solve this issue.
The
ACDP believes that only with an open and transparent process, good
solutions can be found. How to finance the project; how to accommodate
the existing residents during the construction process; how to reverse
the culture of non-payment that has become entrenched under the ANC
rule; etc?
It is heartening to note that the report acknowledges
that "The current living conditions at Schubart Park are unsafe,
unhygienic and pose a threat to all tenants residing at these
complexes."
