ACDP overjoyed with safety break through

The ACDP expressed its gratitude with the decision of the Appeals Authority of the Tshwane Metro Council to uphold the appeals of the seven communities against an earlier decision (in November 2005) of the City Planning Committee, to apply access control. The other pending applications would probably now also be approved, provided they meet the technical requirements of the Rationalisation of Local Government Affairs Act, Act 10 of 1998; as well as Council's own Policy in this regard.

"It is most unfortunate, however, that there has already been loss of life and that people have suffered from robberies, but we are thankful that this matter has now been settled without further court intervention" say AnneMarie Sparg & Richard Dinkelmann, ACDP councillors of the Tshwane Metro.

"We have stated right from the outset that it is a citizen's constitutional right to be protected against crime and that the right to freedom of movement can not supersede the right to a safe and secure environment."

"The ACDP also wishes to thank the Metro Police for their retraction of an earlier memorandum which had withdrawn their support of the gated communities.  The ANC members of the Appeal Authority are also thanked for their willingness to take crime seriously and apply the law."
