MEDIA RELEASE: PUBLIC PARTICIPATION extended - INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLAN (IDP) 24 April 2008
MEDIA RELEASE - 24 April 2008
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION extended - INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLAN (IDP)
The
ACDP would like to see that the comments and input of the residents
during the public participation process, which has been extended to 15
May, be added in an addendum when the IDP comes to Council for final
approval.
Then we further ask that proof of incorporation of
such input, if any, be shown in the final document by way of using a
different font or bold italics.
The
ACDP also requests that should public inputs not be accommodated,
reasons be provided - in the final document to be tabled in Council –
why such inputs have not been accommodated.
We request this in the light of the fact, that public participation seems to have been ignored in the past. Here we refer to other such important issues such as same sex marriages and the current abortion law.
Most
of the taxes paid to the Tshwane Metro come from the suburbs and it is
right of those residents to have a say the IDP. We support the
bulk of the funding to be allocated to the township areas, where there
is still a huge backlog, but we cannot ignore the needs and maintenance of infrastructure of those living in the suburbs.
The
Council seems to have failed in making the IDP document available for
public participation and during the Council meeting of 24 April the
date for the final input has been extended to 15 of May. We thank
the ANC for accepting the proposal to extend the deadline for public
participation.
The ACDP urges the public to come forward with their input during the following 2 and a half weeks.
